Do you need modeling experience for a photoshoot? | San Francisco Bay Area Boudoir Photographer

The answer to this question is quite simple…. NO. You do not need modeling experience for a boudoir portrait experience.

Most of us have this idea in our head that we are born either photogenic or non-photogenic. And that if we were not one of the select magical few that were given the skills of looking good on camera, that we will never have a good picture of ourselves.

I have news for you… there is no such thing as photogenic.

There are simply people who are comfortable in front of the camera, or uncomfortable in front of the camera. Most of us fall in the uncomfortable category. A few things happen when the camera is on us that we don’t even realize we are doing that result in a “bad” picture.

We stop breathing.

Our shoulders go up towards our ears.

Our heads retract.

Our facial muscles tense

And of course… the panic of “What do I do with my hands?!”

Then you see the photo and dislike it thinking that there is something wrong with you. That is so incorrect!

The good news is when you book a boudoir portrait session with me, it is not your job to take a good picture. This is 100% my job during your session. You do not need to have modeling experience in order for this to be worth your time.

I will guide you from head to toe from during your experience. Even down to coaching you for facial expressions and body language to create images that are authentic to you. My goal is to always make you look and feel natural.

If you look through my portfolio, you will see women looking not only beautiful, but with natural expressions and body language. This is from the coaching that takes place, as I do not post any models in my portfolio. My passion is for taking the “everyday” woman and showing her that there is no difference between them and a model other than some direction and a good photographer.

You may feel nervous, but I assure you when you push through, and follow my direction you will be in love with the images we make.
