Age means nothing | San Francisco Bay Area Boudoir Photographer

We’ve been told as women that our worth decreases each passing year. We are only good enough to be seen and valued when we are “young and beautiful.” Each wrinkle, scar, and any sign of aging is a mark against our right to exist.

This story fed to women has made us addicts to chasing youth. We are doing anything we can to cover up our age. Even at 36, I have felt the shame of someone guessing my age perfectly.

“I look my age?” I felt like something must be wrong with me. Maybe it’s time to try some surgery or procedure to make myself younger because there must be a problem if people can tell my age. My desire to look like a 25-year-old me made my heart ache. I missed the person I didn’t particularly appreciate when I was 25. At 36, I have more of a habit of loving what I see in the mirror and feeling more confident than ever. Yet, I let that number make me feel like maybe I don’t have a right to like what I see.

One of my favorite quotes about what is sexy comes from Gabby Bernstein

“There is nothing sexier than my authentic truth.”

The path to self-hatred is always looking for outside validation that we are beautiful and worthy. Our truth of who we are, what we are, and what we bring to the world will always be the only validation we need.
